Attention Deficit Disorder

Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD) is the term used to describe a set of behaviours which can include hyperactivity, impulsiveness, aggressiveness, restlessness, an inability to concentrate or pay attention, and being easily distracted. There are many different levels and subtypes of ADHD and different people can be affected by it in a myriad of different ways; the condition is quite common and is found in relatively high numbers of children and teenagers. ADHD can be hard to diagnose as there is no specific test that can be done for it and it is easy to confuse it with normal (albeit extreme) forms of behaviour in children. This means that it can be a tricky condition to treat, and may be missed in some people.

The symptoms of ADHD can have a big impact on a child’s life as they may be unable to complete tasks such as schoolwork due to a lack of focus, are at risk of hurting themselves due to impulsive behaviour, and are often seen as disobedient and naughty which can result in conflict and social difficulties.

Although medication can help to alleviate the symptoms of ADHD, many parents worry about the effects that this can have on their child. In some cases the medication will enable the child to become more focused and attentive, but can also neutralise qualities such as independence, adventurousness and creativity which should be encouraged and nurtured. If you or a loved one are being affected by ADHD and you want to find an alternative treatment that doesn’t risk side effects, our Neurofeedback training can help you.

Neurofeedback is focused on the principle that the brain can be taught to function in a different way; essentially, it is a tool to improve brain regulation naturally, using the brain’s own self-regulatory system. Research shows that Neurofeedback can have long lasting positive benefits, and as this is a completely natural treatment with none of the risks that come with surgery or medication, it is safe for people of all ages. This approach can help your child to improve their behaviour while retaining the personality traits that make them a special and unique individual.
